As Rome burns the great walls of China go up!
Please someone tell me who is responsible for this
boondoggle of erecting those ugly walls adorning our
freeways? What a wonderfully creative way of wasting
money.
It costs 1.8 million dollars per mile to erect these
walls! Can you believe that! While our roads need
repaving, bridges need rebuilding they spend our tax
dollars on this project.
Someone told me that these walls are sound barriers.
What foolishness!! With today's laws governing the
noise coming out of vehicles they are far quieter than
years ago. Gone are the days with the big V8 and
glass-pack mufflers that would rattle the teeth out of
your head. Even motorcycles are muffled, some so
quiet you don't even know they are passing.
If you ever saw the original plans of what our
freeways and highways were suppose to look like you
would be amazed. They were suppose to be beautifully
landscaped with trees, bushes and flowers.
Besides the aesthetic beauty landscaping provides,
it is a sound barrier and also helps in curbing
pollution. Exhaust pollution is only one, the other
is the pollution generated by the wearing of tires and
the payment. Trees and plants provide a natural air
filter.
On top of all this is driver safety. One concern is
driver fatigue from looking at the same thing over and
over that can put you in a trance and make you drowsy.
Another danger is getting on and off the freeway.
The way these walls are erected it blocks your vision.
I had more then one close call exiting the freeway by
E 222 in Euclid.
Northeast Ohio isn't the only area that has these
ugly walls. I have encountered them elsewhere. One
of the joys of traveling is looking at a city or
suburb as you pass through. Especially during
Christmas when houses are decorated like the one in
Wickliffe by the Lloyd Rd that you could easily see
from the freeway. And if you want to exit while
traveling you will now have to make a guess if the
neighborhood is safe.
Furthermore getting back to the noise issue, IF that
is the reason they were erected, as we move into more
alternative forms of fuel and electric run vehicles
they will be even quieter.
This is just a complete waste of money that doesn't
even include the price tag to maintain these ugly
walls.
I just wish I knew who to yell at because I would
love to scream as President Reagan did to Gorbachev
"TEAR DOWN THOSE WALLS". Well Ohio please - tear
down those walls!! or at least STOP building new ones!

Nice blog, My site that talks about pilates mat certification and other Pilates stuff just started a blog a few days ago. I'm looking at sites for ideas
This week I had the opportunity to drive to Cleveland, Ohio airport downtown. I saw perhaps 15 miles of sound walls going up. (I drove at 60 mph for 15 minutes so guesstimate the miles). I suspect these are not really for the purpose of decreasing the sounds of auto traffic in the area but really something being done by FEMA for the control of U.S. Citizens eventually as they are directed towards some of the 800 concentration camps already prepared for them in this country.I do NOT trust the Government any more. They lie, they steal from the citizenry, they remove our civil liberties. Much is being done in the name of alleged protection from Terrorists! HA! Cameras all over the place! Flashlights that can send alternating color frequencies to the human eye to disorient and make people nauseous. (See http://www.homelandsecurity.org/snapshots/newsletter/2007-07.htm). All the Executive orders are signed and in place to declare Martial Law once another CREATED 911 is decided upon. BEWARE! PREPARE!
I just discovered the website who writes about

The sound walls are necessary for the residences. If you do not live next to the freeway, the little noise exposure from the freeway does not affect you. But the residences who are affected by the noise during their sleeping & resting causes detrimental health effect.
There ares studies that shows the effect of noise pollution on the physical & psychological health of the individuals. You can google "Noise pollution hazard" and see. Noise pollution health effect is the same reason many residences who live near wind generator complaint that the wind generator affect their health.
Many cities now require that developers must install sound walls to protect the prospective residences from the freeway noises at the cost to the developer before they approved the development. That will add cost to the properties as the developers will just pass the cost to the buyers. But it is necessary as they don't want the future residences to complaint to the cities, counties, states & federal government demanding a sound walls to protect them from the noise polutions.
All these actions taken by the local, state & federal governments are the result of petitions by residences who are affected by the noise pollutions. Your post only shows that you did not do your research about noise polutions before you wrote your post.
The real loss is to the taxpayer, that wasn't STUPID enough to develop, or the even dumber Asshat's that bought the houses next to freeways. In most cases the freeway was there LONG BEFORE the houses. So if you don't like noise, DON'T BUY THERE. DUH...
